Assessment
UNDERSTANDING SURVEY GRIDS AND COORDINATES
On a scale of 1-5, I would rank my knowledge of sampling and grids at a 3: some knowledge. After this activity, I would rank my knowledge at a 4: able enough to teach someone else. I would strongly agree that the hands-on approach to this activity added to how much I was able to learn and retain. I would like to see more connections with real-life examples of how datums are used and survey methods of the past and present. In all, I really did enjoy the creativity allowed and using our own custom methods to reach a goal in a team setting. Somehow I feel as though these might be skills required in the future.

1-Strongly Disagree,
2-Disagree
3-No real opinion
4-Agree
5- Strongly Agree
What types of learning strategies would you recommend to make the activity even better?
We were able to talk to professionals in the industry and the uses for drones are so vast. It would've been nice to learn more about missions they worked on in the past and where they see the industry heading and what experience/knowledge is required to be on the UAS wave.
Understandably so, the watching professionals use the UAS was unstructured and tended to be a difficult setting to see how to preload the flight paths and what the operator actually did. It would've been nice to see how they did this since I had no prior experience.

It was a great way to teach the lesson, but would've been more engaging in a class activity rather than reading hypotheticals from ArcGIS Online.

Nothing. I liked the amount of freedom and little direction to collect and process a microclimate.

A better description and demonstration of setting the bearing using the compass on the UTM map. This was a little more difficult for me to comprehend just by reading and a visual demonstration should've been a lot easier to understand. However, there seemed to be a lot of students who were still confused. The weather didn't help the situation either.

What types of learning strategies would you recommend to make the activity even better?
Could this lab not be combined with the microclimate ArcCollector activity? Lots of other classes hammer home the concepts of datums and interpolation methods. I liked comparing the results among interpolation methods but would've enjoyed collecting the data over an actual area using applications currently used in the field. I think the strength of this class is getting out and challenging us to come up with our own methods to model areas with current technology--by far hasn't seemed like busy work straight from a book to manufacture obvious answers. It's been great, but this seemed like one of the more challenging labs to be engaged in--below the standard of the others. I guess that's the point of data normalization though and also it's my last semester (hopefully) so that could play into the motivation for labs such as these.

This lab was great. Basic enough and for a solid purpose demonstrating key information and practices in processing and modelling.
